Revisionist History 10

If there is any single thing that we can take away from history it is that the victor writes what is enshrined in the books we read today. Those who suffer defeat have no part in what the world will ultimately come to learn. While that may sound unfortunate, it is the way the world works, even here on deviantART.

In July 2005 the deviantART world witnessed possibly the most fraudulent act the deviantART staff has ever taken. The last remaining co-founder of the site was eliminated in a power move that will not be forgotten any time soon. The so-called CEO of deviantART would have the deviants believe that this issue will subside and go away; after all, a concealed agenda is the modus operandi of the sites fearless young leader.

The powers-that-be triumphed in their well executed strategy to remove one piece of the puzzle for the sole purpose of laying claim to more pieces of the monetary pie. At the core, the root cause of what we all witnessed boiled down to the age old adage: money. Not content with being born in to a wealthy family, or having prospered during the internet bubble, the CEO and CTO of deviantART (both of whom are living prosperous lives) systematically concocted a strategy to remove me from the equation in order to give themselves a larger slice of the pie. They lied to their own closely kept staff in order to conceal their true motives, so that the staff would remain faithful and never doubt reality.

But enough of the history lesson that you will no doubt read in the chronicles that the victors will surely write.

Did the CEO of deviantART rewrite history? He unequivocally contends otherwise. Fortunately, smoke and mirrors do not tell a true story. As Occam’s Razor suggests, the simplest explanation for a given phenomenon is generally the correct one.

In the case of revisionist deviantART history, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck then, by golly, it must be a duck. Free your mind and judge for yourself.

Test Internet Explorer 7 without installing it is a cool idea if you really have this dying urge to fool around with the latest beta of Microsoft’s monstrosity. Think I will pass and just wait for the final version to come out, even if that means hanging loose for another year.

Mastering A Skill 4

We, as human beings, have simple skills that we execute every day. Most of these go unnoticed because they are so intertwined with our lives. They are second nature; involuntary reactions to events that take place around us. We tend not to perceive these as actual skills but as part of life as a human being.

There are, however, certain skills that only a limited number of people have, which allow them to be more effective in areas that the average person is not. Even though only a small percentage of the population has mastered these skills, their benefits are too great to be kept to themselves. Conquering them requires time, dedication and patience. Devotion is challenging for the average person due to our busy lives.

One such skill that most people do not have, but which we could benefit from, is simple and effective time management. Life is moving along at 800 miles per hour and, for the most part, we are not prepared for what is thrown in our direction at any random moment. Because of a lack of preparedness most people panic when faced with a decision that is outside of what their allotted time affords.

At its most basic core, time management offers us techniques for planning the use of our time. This allows us to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of our time, whether it is our personal or business lives that need organization. Time management need to be completely integrated in to our lives in order to truly succeed.

There are various tools on the market that will aid us in our endeavor to be effective time managers; in fact, many time management techniques are tied to specific tools and may end up conflicting with the advice offered by competing ideas. Subtle and obvious nuances give each one their own persona. However, what appears to be the common denominator of most techniques is the use of simple “to-do lists.” These lists give us a basic overview of what we are required to do as well as allow us to properly prioritize our various endeavors; they are constant reminders of what we need to accomplish in order to reach a specified goal.

The goals that time management helps us achieve do not have to be lofty. They can be something as simple as the desire to have a weekly dinner menu crafted each week so that we know what food needs to be purchased at the supermarket. We can also aim for the stars by desiring to be a millionaire by age 25. No matter what our ambition is, effective time management will help us obtain it.

Being effective at time management takes hard work and dedication to certain techniques, however the payoff in the end is worth every minute spent mastering the skills required to be a successful time manager. We can throw our days of disarray and disorganization out of the window and bask in the comfort that we know where and how our time is being spent.

This is in contrast to aimlessly wondering why we procrastinated and waited until the last moment in which to complete a task we desired to have completed hours, maybe days, earlier. We have all been there; questioning ourselves internally in an attempt to investigate the source of our inadequate time management; speculating why we are panicking.

So why is time management so important?

Time is not a resource that can be stored for use some time later. Making a deposit of 3 hours in to the “time bank,” which could be withdrawn and used at a later date, may sound like a wonderful idea but due to current scientific and technical limitations it is just not possible. There are only 24 hours in the day, no matter how we look at it.

The average person already feels as if they have too much to do, yet not enough time to get it done in. Time is a “natural resource” that everyone does not have enough of. Even if there were more than 24 hours in the day we would still feel helpless.

In fact, we blame many of our shortcomings on lack of time. We feel overwhelmed with the amount of activities, tasks and work we need to complete which leads us to feeling “stressed out.”

Inadequate time management leads to stress, which leads to panicking. When we attempt to work while flustered we tend to execute poorly. This leads to more stress, which spirals us in to a position where we are unable to get rid of the cascading anxiety due to inferior completion of tasks.

Stress is the number one cause of health problems throughout the world therefore it is safe to say that effective time management leads to a more healthy life.

If you have something that you desire to accomplish then sitting around waiting for free time to just magically appear is going to result in a losing game. It will rarely, if ever, happen.

Effective time management solves all of this.

By learning to become more productive through quality time management techniques our lives will improve drastically. We will be able to accomplish more in a less time and with less effort.

We can all free ourselves from the shackles of stress by learning effective time management techniques. Do not procrastinate; start today and be on the road to a healthier, more enjoyable, life.
