triSexuality Standard

triSexuality Standard

triSexuality Standard is an unpersonalized version of the very layout that I use here, as a Wordpress 1.5+ based theme. It is a non-standard 3-column design that follows the wide-thin-thin idea rather than the normal thin-wide-thin design that most layouts of this type use. The colors are easy on the eyes, attractive and a lot of fun.

Installation instructions and complete theme information are all available on the triSexuality Standard theme page. If anything is missing then please let me know and I will promptly correct it.

The theme has been tested on a variety of platforms as well as browsers and appears to work well across the board. Hopefully I have not missed anything but if I did then, again, please let me know.

I will do my best to address any questions, concerns or comments about the theme. Feel free to post constructive criticism about the theme itself. So long as it is a valid issue I will gladly listen and am, in fact, quite open to modifying things so that this becomes a really usable theme.

If you want it then go ahead and grab it.

Update #1: I have made some minor updates to the file. Removed a couple of calls to plug-in specific output, removed two large unused images, fixed a couple bugs and various other minor enhancements. Please see the theme page for proper instructions on implementation of my “asides.”

Update #2: There was an error in the template files that was using “scott” as the author for all posts. It has been udpated to make use of <?php the_author() ?>. Download the latest .zip from the theme page.

I think this is freaking awesome.

2 Martin Sep 25th, 2005, at 16:32:57

This is realy great, thnx a bunch – I know what I’ll be spending this Sunday on.

I have one problem so far though. When implementing the asides, they come out looking nothing like the ones on your page. I’m looking through the css, but can’t seem to figure out what is causing this.

3 Scott Sep 25th, 2005, at 17:19:28

Martin

Ah, I know what the problem is! After looking through my source it appears that it is because I modified the Customizable Post Listing plug-in so that it fits my needs here.

I will try and get in contact with the author of the plug-in and see if he will add my modification to his plug-in or allow me to distribute it.

If you would like what I am using then holler at me via the contact form and I can email it to you.

Martin

Actually, I have updated the theme page to include the proper directions for getting “asides” exactly like mine.

It looks good, but I still could never release my own theme. lol I think it’s very cool of you to, of course, considering how nice it is. But I’ve been saying that for months now, so I’ll stop repeating myself. :P

6 Skit Sep 25th, 2005, at 23:35:01

Nice work mate! This is the first theme I looked at that has just felt right. :D

One small thing thou… It seems your publishing on everyone’s blog that uses this theme. All the posts are by ‘Scott’. *chuckle*

I realy should be in bed by now, got a long day ahead of me tomorrow.

I’ve been working at the commenting for this theme. Somewhere along the line, the php does something odd; it refers to line 31 in the “single.php” there seems to be an undefined function called: “the_funny_tags.”

I know absolutely nothing about php, so I’ve had quite a hard time figuring out what is wrong.
I removed the del.icio.us referance in the “footer.php” and I’m wondering if that had anything to do with it. I pasted the del.icio.us thing back in, but it still returns the error.

Making new comments, as well as seeing the old ones, is not possible. The code breaks off right before it gets to the them.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function c2c_get_recent_posts() in /home/sconner/public_html/deviousdog/wp-content/themes/triSexuality-Standard/footer.php on line 11

that’s what I’m getting :)

Good news that you finally released this, it’s ncie to see some themes that aren’t the standard “blog entry and archives in the sidebar” formula.

I have a question though – if you didn’t wat to implement Asides and/or del.icio.us links, how would it affect the template?

10 nodeg Sep 26th, 2005, at 07:30:09

Am I missing something or did you change the header size? I mean, I realize that you took out your personal image from the header, but if I add my own image will the header stretch out to accomidate, or do I actually need to know how to code? lol.

11 Kit Jarrell Sep 26th, 2005, at 08:33:25

Hey Richard, I have the theme on my site without asides, and the del.icio.us links weren’t up either. I plan to PUT the asides in, but for right now you can see it works fine.

Hi, This is really a great theme. But there is a little problem: it can’t not be used by non-english user. Can you encode the pages in UTF-8? Thanks

Makes me want to drop Blogger and use WordPress again… :)

14 Max Limpag Sep 26th, 2005, at 20:32:43

Hi. It’s a great theme. I’m using it for my site. Just a question, though. Would anyone know what would push the second sidebar down? When I installed it, the themedisplayed properly both in Firefox and Internet explorer. But when I added elements to the sidebar, the second sidebar is no longer rendered properly in Explorer. Thanks.

15 Daniel Sep 26th, 2005, at 21:39:40

Woah, awesome man. I always loved this design, it’s purtay! I’ll be testing it out on my site soon.

16 Richard Dunlop-Walters Sep 27th, 2005, at 00:17:26

Max, I believe the issue was addressed in the comments of a previous post about the theme here.

17 nodeg Sep 27th, 2005, at 00:25:09

Seriously, I’m trying to implement this theme. Due to my lack of CSS/PHP knowledge there is one simply thing I’m having trouble doing. I have a header picture that I want to put in, but I have no idea how to implement it. I looked through all of the code to try and find a hint but to no avail. I’ve made an image called head1.jpg that is 550 by 155 px, just like Jarks. How to I implement it?

18 nodeg Sep 27th, 2005, at 00:34:26

Never mind. I figured it out. Maybe I’m not as useless as I thought. Thanks for the awesome theme Jark.

19 the girl underway Sep 28th, 2005, at 03:08:02

I’m having a bit of a problem getting the “LinkBlog” to align to the top; it wants to display itself below the main column’s content. I understand the fact that IE sucks but I have noticed, Scott, that your layout here renders just fine in the same IE I’m using to view my own site … how’d you do it? :)

This is really an awesome theme. Thanks for releasing it to those of us too lazy to write (or learn to write) our own!!!

20 the girl underway Sep 28th, 2005, at 11:48:20

Uh … nevermind on the above. I figured it out.

Thanks again for the awesome theme.

21 Karsten Sep 29th, 2005, at 05:42:06

Hey there,

I really adore your wp theme & I’d like to use it. But it seems that ‘pages’ created with the wordpress admin interface cannot be viewed with your theme. Is there a work-around this or am I simply doing anything wrong?

22 Skit Sep 29th, 2005, at 09:50:37

Karsten:

Scott is handling his pages by hardlinking them just below the title above, as many others do. A list of the pages can be added to ‘Respect’ column quite easily. Simple add the code below to the area in the column you wish to list your pages:

Pages

Please note the ‘exclude=211,209,208′ string. These numbers should be the numbers of the pages that are already linked in the title bar. Eg. Archives, Photos, Contact. Just to save double linking them. :)

Hope that helps!

23 Skit Sep 29th, 2005, at 09:54:41

Bugger, the code tags didn’t quite work and couldn’t preview. :(

I’ve got the code working on my WP test page here: http://skit.id.au/wordpress/

The code you require is covered in detail here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/wp_list_pages

Just replicate one of the other blocks in the column and add in the ‘wp_list_pages’ tag to generate the dynamic list of pages.

24 Karsten Sep 30th, 2005, at 04:22:44

thanks, I’ll try my very best.

25 joseph Oct 3rd, 2005, at 11:18:16

I’m glad to see you released this; I’ve been screwing around with it, looking to implement the design on my site, and had a few suggestions for future versions…

First, the orange bar in the main content column displays links to pages, but these page links are hard coded into the design, wouldn’t it be easier replace this with the code that calls up a Wordpress generated list of page links?

Next, the pages display, what, seven entries at a time? And there’s no previous entries type button at the bottom, least not that I notice, so I’m either on you main page or on a particular archive page, and I can only read the seven most recent entries ever or the seven most recent in that category. There’s also no built in sidebar monthly archive list. I’m sure these things would be easy enough for most to implement. But it’d sure be swell if they came built it.

Your page breaks external links down into categories, friends, blogs, Japanese blogs ect. But the layout itself, as I’m messing with it, seems to lump all links into one category. I don’t know enough about php or databases or whatever to get the layout to break the links up into different categories.

Finally via randomly changing falses to trues I can get the layout to display descriptions to links. But it’s out of blind luck. Maybe some notes in the code explaining to simple folk like me what changes result in what alterations in the display?

Just some suggestions…

26 galfn Oct 6th, 2005, at 18:07:17

Hi,

Your theme is very beautiful, and thanks for your hard work.
But if I view your site in IE, there will be a little problem in sidebar. Can you check this problem?

Thanks

27 Pat Oct 9th, 2005, at 04:49:28

Jark,
this template is awesome..
have a question..
what font are you using for “linkblog” and “respect”
hope you are ok.
thanks

:)

28 Belinda Oct 13th, 2005, at 17:09:49

Just wanted to let you know I’m using this and so far so good! I was using the 3-column Relaxation theme (which has exactly the same layout as yours) at one point but visually it was very boring. I really like the colour scheme :)

29 Martin Oct 20th, 2005, at 16:09:46

I have just noticed a sllight problem.
When using the standard Wordpress “archive” function to sort post by month, (if pressed) your theme only returns the same amount of posts as you have specified for the main blog.
Other themes have a “previous »” link, to posts that don’t fit on page (due to, say a, 10 post limit, on the main page).

I’m guessing that this has to do with the “probes” thingy you use for your archive. Would you be able to give me a hand, eighter to figure out the “probes” thing, or maybe how to implement a “previous >>” link?

thanks!

30 YaWie Oct 22nd, 2005, at 04:25:33

Hi there! I really love your theme for wordpress. I’m trying to customize it for my needs and running into some problems. I’ve installed your Customizable Post Listing plug-in and it works great for asides. But now I want to implement a Recent Comments column in the footer and I just can’t get it to work. Any idea how to code this, using your plugin?

31 Skit Oct 22nd, 2005, at 12:41:01

YaWie: I’d suggest using the Recent Comments plugin by Krischan Jodies. I’m currently using it on one of my blogs and works a treat.

Just install the plugin and for example, above:

add:

Recent Comments

The layout of the recent comments can be customized in the Admin Panels. :)

32 Skit Oct 22nd, 2005, at 12:47:34

Whoops forgot the code tags don’t work…

Above: http://pastebin.com/401607 (click to view the code)

Add: http://pastebin.com/401608 (click to view the code)

This will add all recent comments just below the asides and above the del.icio.us links if activated. :)

33 Tess Oct 25th, 2005, at 04:11:56

Hi, thanks a lot for sharing. I am not that technically proficient, so I wanted to know how I can add a Next or Previous Page. What is happening is this.
1. I click on a Category with 5 posts
2. Since I set my post to show only 1, it shows only 1 post (which is still correct)
3. Now, if I wanted to go to the next post, how I do add Next Entry so that I can see post #2 then post #3

Thanks.

Hey Scott, after 3 weeks of hard work, I finished my theme, based on yours:

Thanks a lot!

Can someone point me in the right direction to get the “Linkblog” column to align correctly in IE? It looks perfectly fine in Firefox and other browsers (I’m assuming) but that column just happens to find it’s way to the totally wrong place. I noticed the girl underway and *possibly* galfn have had this problem too. Any help would be appreciated.

36 Pujiono Nov 8th, 2005, at 09:47:39

Hi,

I was trying to install your theme. Unfortunately, it is said that I could not finish that because there is an error message on WP control panel: “The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.”

I have tried to re-uploaded it twice and I checked every files I uploaded. But, still, the error message apppeared that I cannot choose it as my theme. What should I do? Currently I use WP 1.5.1.3. Please help me.

38 Niche Marketer Nov 14th, 2005, at 19:59:37

Hi, Can someone answer this for me?

I’ve just installed this them on my test blog and everything looks great on FireFox, but on IE, the page images right on the middle and right column look funny.

It appears randomly, and some appear as broken.

Do you know how to fix this?

thanks

39 basibanget Nov 15th, 2005, at 10:21:15

#41
Look for this code in style.css and just comment it
#wrapperleft, #wrapper { display: inline-table; }

For all I know, there are no inline-table values for display. CMIIW

40 Niche Marketer Nov 15th, 2005, at 10:30:16

It didn’t do anything good.

If you want to know what I’m saying, just view http://www.jarkolicious.com in IE. You will see that the images in the middle and right column displays funny.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Bugger…

Recently opened my site in IE and realised it breaks in IE. The Respect green column gets pushed down so that the top of that column lines up with the footer…

I’ve had a play with the code and stylesheet but can’t figure it out…

Anyone able to help?

That’ll teach me for not testing my changes in multiple browsers… :P
