Sanity Among The Insanity

With the recent revelation of my involuntary termination from deviantART, Inc, and subsequent loss of administrative status, the site has been in turmoil. Deviants have come closer together than ever before in order to fight for what they believe in. It is almost beautiful in a poetic way, even under these harsh circumstances.

With the good, however, comes the bad. As I stated in my very first journal entry after these horrific events commenced, we must remain civil. I have witnessed far too much personal destruction over the course of the past few days.

Rioting solves nothing.

Diplomacy is necessary.

Whether you submit art or write comments, it must remain well-mannered. Trust me when I say that; the administration favors, and listens, to those who can frame their arguments in an intelligent and courteous manner. People who lash out are summarily dismissed by the staff.

Please do not go to Mr. Sotira’s or Mr. McCann’s user page and comment in an inflammatory manner. Regardless of their actions, it is not fair to leave derogatory, childish or irrational comments on their pages.

Please do not go to lolly’s user page and torment him; lolly had nothing to do with this; the powers-that-be decided he was the most qualified person left on staff to run Community Development and therefore was “promoted” to that position.

Doing so will only serve to undermine this crusade.

Above all, take the moral high-ground and remain mature, civil and speak your mind intelligently.

I agree. The 5th anniversary of deviantART is approaching, and I’d really hate to look another 5 years from now, where people would look back and say “I remember the 5th anniversary of dA? Wasn’t that the day a bunch of deviants

And so at last the beast fell and the unbelievers rejoiced. But all was not lost, for from the ash rose a great bird. The bird gazed down upon the unbelievers and cast fire and thunder upon them. For the beast had been reborn with its strength renewed, and the followers of Mammon cowered in horror.

What you began with DevArt will not be forgotten. DA as you had envisioned it may deteriorate at this point.. but I have a feeling that your role within the web community will not. Stay ambitious!

Yeah. Lolly is alright. However, it’s kind of hard for a lot of deviants to restrain themselves when they get to Sotira and McCann… I believe there are some of them who are simply jumping on the bandwagon.

So… is it alright if I ask how the legal proceedings are going? Just curious.

So how are things comming along? Hopefully all is well =)

It’s nice to see the community comming closer together though some are going about it for the wrong reasons (and, as you say, undermining the point of this whole thing).

Glad to see you give your support to Lolly, that should quell the angry notes or at least it should ease it.

Only thing I’ve posted to any of their pages was simply “Why?” and “We deserve the truth.” Lashing out is not going to work, as you mentioned.

Remember Jark!

I hope some legal action is currently taking place, and I hope there is progress! Once again, all the best to you.

Spoken as I would expect a good leader to do, I agree with you 100%, keep the faith!

I can’t see this going on for more than a month..
Spyed definately isn’t the most popular person on dA and he’s running it! If he really cares what’s good for the community, then he’s going to reinstate you as admin and President.

The deviants of Salmon Arm, BC, Canada support you, Jark!

Scott,
I support you 100% in this. I also agree with your requests to keep it civil especially with Lolly (that is sooo much easier than his old screen name!) and even Angelo. Keep up the good work and the nice photos.

Best Regards
Greg

Yes, civil support is much more efficient and constructive,

Good blog.

This has gone way too far. I’m real sorry to hear about your… ‘resignation’. We all support you 100% man. I hope that dA pulls through this in some reasonable manner.

Scott. I’ve been with DA since the early days and I’m appaled to see spyed backstab you like that. I’m a business student myself and had a similar experience. I say we build another community. Spyed thinks we can’t? Well let’s show him! If all jark supporters (lets say 1000 of them) donate $20 that should allow you to buy initial servers. I’m sure they will support you. I know I will. If you build it, they will come. No more idiot backstabbers, all control in your hands and all rewards to you jark.

Full support to you, from all of us.
Hoping all legal proceedings go well.

Can’t even get into deviantART at the moment btw, has the site been taken down or something? Tis a worry…

Yes, keep it civil!

I’ve had my comments and my thoughts and I’ve tried to keep them very civil. No one is going to respect our thoughts and ideals if we’re running around typing “Jark’s gone, omg, you suxor!” on every page possible. I’ve seen a lot of negativity were it was not needed…forum admins being flamed and comments being hurled at people who have no control over this.

What happened here sucks. It sucks big time. But we need to be mature and civil. If we want DA to return to the DA it once was, we’ve got to do it as adults.

Jark, we miss you!

15 Franny Aug 7th, 2005, at 07:32:19

Eh…I didn’t actually find out about any of this until today, but I’ve got to say, from all that I’ve read, I definitely support you. It sounds a lot like what they did to you is wrong, and I wholeheartedly hope that everything works out for you in the end. And, like someone else stated in your previous entry, you’ve got more than half of DA supporting you, so it’s sort of like you have the upper hand! ^^

[And I think it's great that you're being so mature about all of it.]

Hope everything turns out okay-
